Job Purpose:

Responsible for ensuring that optimal engineered solutions are developed and proposed in a timely manner in response to customer enquiries. Responsible for margin achievement and customer responsiveness levels


  1. Assess and prioritise new bid opportunities by establishing customer credibility, competitive landscape, win likelihood and expected margin, responding appropriately
  2. Respond to customer requests for new equipment/upgrades/ other technical solutions by understanding needs and interpreting this to ensure the appropriate solution for all stakeholders
  3. Provide pre-sales support to customers, building relationship and credibility with them until the order is placed
  4. Prepare bids/proposals which satisfy both the customers’ needs and the Company’s revenue and margin targets, leading our bid review process
  5. Conduct negotiations as appropriate with customers and other key stakeholders, ensuring our proposed supply chain is structured to give best value  
  6. Maintain and update customer data, customer enquiry and proposal data on CRM
  7. Contribute towards the development and implementation of our sales processes and policies
  8. Contribute effectively as a part of our Management team


Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Bid management and engineering solutions development experience preferably gained in either the packaging  machinery/ other capital equipment/high value manufactured goods market segments
  • Engineering qualification to NVQ 4 or degree level, technically knowledgeable on a practical level to be able to translate customer/client's needs effectively
  • Commercially experienced, aware of contractual requirements that need to be considered for a bid to be viable, risk minimised and profitable
  • Experience in dealing with an international customer base, experience facing the customer as well as back office
  • High levels of verbal and written communication skills to communicate with and influence customers
  • Numerate and IT literate, able to conduct market analysis /market research to inform bid strategy  
  • Preferable but not essential: Spanish and/or French to conversational level
